World Cup Tour Continues...

Skiing at home in my backyard in front of my friends and family for the best country in the whole world is an experience I will never forget! Although the racing part was not what I had in mind I definitely learned some valuable lessons for the next Olympics in Sochi, Russia. I have a lot of racing to do between now and then and I believe over those next four years I will learn and gain more of what I need to succeed in the quest for an Olympic medal...

Kvjtvell, Norway is the next stop on the World Cup Tour. I along with the rest of my team can get back into the regular routine of WC racing. The success that Erik, Johnny, Manny and I had last year in Norway makes for an exciting time to get back there and get our race on!!!

To all the volunteers and everyone that was involved I thank you for all your hard work and endless hours that you put into making the Olympics and especially the Alpine events possible. Whistler is not a an easy place to hold an outdoor event but you proved anything is possible. Thank you from the bottom of heart for the once in a life time opportunity!!!

I am so proud to be Canadian.

Olympics Day 12 - Schedule is Back to Normal and the Giant Slalom is Today

This is the third and final event for Robbie at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver (Whistler). This year Robbie has been skiing amazing in Giant Slalom and slowly getting better start numbers each race. Robbie is moving up the ranks and will be on top of the world soon enough.

The Canadian bibs to watch today are Robbie 26th, Brad 32nd, Erik 44th, and Patrick 51st.

Olympic Day 8 - No Matter what Skiing at Home is the Best

After watching Robbie's interview with Perry, he was still thankful for the opportunity to ski in front of a hometown crowd. He is gaining valuable experience that will be useful for future Olympic Games. With Giant Slalom only days away Robbie will refocus and start preparing for his next appearance here in Whistler. Robbie is positive about his skiing this week and feels he left everything he had on the race course.

Congratulations goes out to Erik Guay the top Canadian in fifth place only sixth hundreds out of second. The only other Canadian to finish was Jan Hudec in 23rd position, Robbie Dixon and Manuel Osborne-Paradis both DNF.

Robbie is going to "keep on, keeping on!"

Olympic Day 8 - Super G Under Blue Sky's

Monday night Robbie reflected on the days performance and quickly started focusing on today's Super G. The Super G is a very unique event for alpine, includes one inspection and one run down the course. Combining the elements of the Giant Slalom like more turns and elements of the Downhill like keeping the speeds up. Unlike Giant Slalom there is no second run and unlike Downhill there are no training runs. Super G combines an hour and a half long inspection, and one race run down the Dave Murray race course.
Please come out and check out the Super G at the numerous public viewing areas and cheer loudly for Robbie staring 27th and the other Canadians Manuel 12th, Erik 20th, and Jan 32nd.

Olympics Day 4 - Congrat's to Erik on his 5th place

Tough day for Robbie but he is ok. After the first mistake up top you could see that Robbie wanted to make it up. He was skiing really well until he loaded his ski after landing at fall away. The energy of the ski kicked him out of position and he washed out on his side. We are all happy that he is ok and the first event is behind him. Super G and Giant Slalom to go.

Olympics Day 4 - Downhill is finally here!

For the last few days the team have been waiting out the weather. Finally the weather is looking favorable and the Men's Downhill is set to go at 10:30am. Robbie is starting 24th today, little different then starting second like in the training runs.

Olympics Day 1 - Final Training Run Cancelled

They just annouced that they have cancelled the third and final Men's Downhill training run. Robbie has had to very confident runs down the track and now they are preparing for race day.

Olympic Men's Downhill is set for 11:45am February 13, 2010 on the Dave Murray Downhill.

Olympics - Full Training Run in the Books

With a complete training run and everyone down safely we are ready to race. Robbie completed the training run in third place today and four Canadians in the top 22.

Olympics - Second Training Run Today

With the weather looking a little better this morning, the Men's Downhil will hold the second training run. Once again Robbie is starting second followed closely by team mate Erik Guay and Manuel Osborne-Paradis starting 15th. Rip it up again boys!

Olympic Games

Today marks the first unofficial day for the alpine events with a Downhill training run. Canada has fielded a team of six that will try and qualify for the four spot in the Men's Downhill. Today Robbie will be the first Canadian out of the start in bib number two.

Kickin it

With the Olympic DH less than two weeks away I'm taking this time to rest up after some solid skiing on the Dave Murray track last week. Erik, Manny, Jan and I were able to get a little home field advantage! Felt good to be going fast again! Track is looking good, come Feb 13th be ready for some exciting racing! Til then heading to Calgary today for a few days before we start up on Friday at Nakiska for a little SG training over the weekend.

It is Official! Olympics here we come

With the success Robbie had through the last three seasons he has proven himself to be one of the best skiers in Canada. Yesterday, January 27, 2009, Alpine Canada Alpin announces its Olympic team. Robbie is joined by his fellow Whistler Mountain Ski Club alumni Manuel, Mike, and Britt with this one in a lifetime opportunity to compete in Whistler. Good Luck to the whole Canadian Olympic team.

Another Solid Day

Today was another step in the right direction. Spent another day training GS up in Nakiska with Jan. Head was feeling good, the confidence in my skiing was starting to feel like my usual self. The weather was blue bird, snow conditions couldn't have been any better for getting the feeling back. I had four solid runs just shy of a minute. I wasn't feeling 100% but definitely everyday is feeling better so I'm confident everything will shape up for Feb 13th.

Congrats to Erik for a solid 5th place finish in the Kitzbuhel SG today! Lets hope for another solid result from Erik and Manny in the DH tomorrow!

Skiing in Nakiska

Good news. Today, joined up with Jan Hudec in Nakiska, Alberta for a little GS training. Felt good to be back on snow!!! Kept out of the gates and just free skied for 8 runs. The sun was out and the snow conditions couldn't have been any better. Tomorrow the plan is to keep with the momentum on the hill and hopefully move from free skiing to some gates. Wish I was in Kitzbuhel this week.... Would love to throw myself down that run but I guess will have to wait til next year!

Olympic DH 23 Days Away

After a little mishap at the beginning of January that left me with a minor concussion causing me to miss the two "Classic" Downhills, Im back in Calgary healing up and getting ready for February 13th. I must say having to miss the last two weeks has been pretty tough but based on how I was feeling, and what's coming up, made the most sense to come home and rest.

Thanks to my web designer Chris, he has made it a lot easier to update my website! I look forward to keeping you updated on a more regular basis.

Great Weekend in Lake Louise

The speed World Cup kick off the season in Lake Louise. Robbie rose to the occasion with two top ten finishes. Yesterday Robbie finished in 8th and today was 5th, well teamate/housemate Manny took top spot and Erik was 4th. Also today teamate Johnny suffered a broken leg and we all wish him a speedy recovery. First Giant Slalom World Cup Points

Today marked the first world cup of the 2009/2010 season in Solden, AUT. Robbie has worked hard over the last year to lower his FIS points to improve his start position in giant slalom. Starting 36th today, Robbie finished the first run with a time of 1:13:10 which placed him in 28th position. For those of you new to the World Cup process, only the top 30 get to start second run. Robbie was the third athlete to start the second run and was able to lay down the second fastest time for the second run. Kjetil Jansrud won the second run with a time 1:11:39 and Robbie had a time of 1:11:55 edging out Didier Cuche by one hundreth of a second. When the day was done Robbie finished in 16th position earning his first ever Giant Slalom World Cup points.

The Fall is Here

Apparently this whole global warming thing that people can't stop talking about might actually be true..... In Tignes, France right now. I got here this past weekend and the difference between last year when were here to now is quite a bit... Its been a warm summer and apparently was +20 the week before we got here. Timing couldn't be better, the temp dropped below zero, sunny skies and the training conditions are hard glacier ice maybe a little to good. The skis only last one maybe two runs and they are dull. Everywhere else in Europe is not good with either no snow or too much snow. With the Solden GS opener fast approaching I have put all of my attention to GS and Im feeling good, skiing well and looking forward to the race! This weekend Johnny, Franky and I are going to train with Aksel and the Norwegian boys in Saas Fe, Switzerland. Should be good, looking forward to getting some training in with our Norwegian buddies.

Storm has Been Weathered

Since the storm things have looked up pretty good. We have had some pretty amazing weather, sunny and clear skys! The snow conditions have been getting better everyday. Still a little soft but improving. The DH track is a lot of fun. Lionel was able to build up a very nice jump! As you can see in the photo. The jumps sending us about 60 metres with a smooth landing. Im feeling good on my skis, making gains in GS. Training alongside reigning World Cup Overall Champ Aksel Lund Svindal is always a bonus. Between the Norwegians and Canadians there's some great competition and some very solid skiing. Its nice to know how I'm doing when I have such a good skier to measure off of!!! Today was the first of 3 days of DH followed by one day of SG. Then were planning on finishing off the camp with 2 days of GS.

Heading to Chile

After a pretty EPIC summer of fun in the sun on boats, Islands, lakes, cabins with my best buds its time to get serious! Im back in Portillo, Chile for a 2 week speed camp where the focus is mainly DH and SG. Earlier this summer I was down in New Zealand for 3 weeks and the focus was all about the GS. Im excited to be here and looking forward to skiing some DH, my favourite event!!! The track here has a little bit of everything to offer. Big steep turns, some gliding a fun jump that sends you 50-60 metres! The jump ranges every year. Depends on how much snow there is and how confident Lionel is on our jumping skills this early in the season!!! Unfortunately the weather moved in the day we got here and I think its staying for a few days. So.... I sense some powder skiing coming!!!!
